Chief of Staff

Harvard Chabad was founded in 1997 and today serves thousands of students, visitors and community members annually. Operating from Chabad Houses at Harvard, MIT, and East Cambridge, Harvard Chabad has grown into one of the largest Chabad Houses nationally, and has become well known for its advocacy on behalf of Jewish students as well as for hosting popular events and prominent speakers. In addition to this, Harvard Chabad operates the Preschool of the Arts. Founded in 2016 POTA currently runs in locations and serves 236 pre-school children.

The core responsibility of this role is to support the organization’s leadership, specifically the President and CEO, Rabbi Zarchi, in all of Chabad’s efforts in strengthening Jewish life at Harvard and continuing to activate and organize Harvard’s Jewish alumni community to protect, enrich, and expand our reach both at Harvard and beyond.

In this role, you will be a key member of the leadership team responsible for strengthening organizational effectiveness, workflow efficiency, and support for the President with an eye towards strategic imperatives. You will serve as Rabbi Zarchi’s right hand, providing thought partnership, project management support, and serving as an organizational integrator who connects work streams to make the organization more effective.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing operational strategies to optimize efficiency, drive growth, and achieve organizational goals. This role requires strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of operations management principles. Helping to manage Chabad’s real estate portfolio and having the ability to launch strategic initiatives will be key.

Responsibilities will include project management, facilitating decision-making, supporting human resources, hiring and onboarding new team members and some financial management.

Key projects include the Jewish Leaders Forum, which brings together current leaders from the business, political, academic and social arenas and young students leaders currently on campus.

Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of related or transferable experience
● Excellent written and verbal communicator
● Strong presentation development skills
● Highly organized with strong project management skills
● Strong critical thinking skills
● Ability to juggle multiple long-term, complex projects with urgent and ever-shifting demands, keeping track of all work streams and deliverables.

Director of Institutional Advancement

As Director of Institutional Advancement, you will help advance the goals and vision of Harvard Chabad as it grows into its next ambitious chapter. This is a unique opportunity to work in a vibrant and mission-driven environment. In this role you’ll be responsible for overseeing and performing tasks related to institutional advancement, donor relations, and program development, and–help craft the next phase of our advancement strategy.

In this role, your core responsibility will be to activate and organize Harvard’s Jewish alumni community, those who’ve experienced Harvard Chabad, and those who have not, to protect, enrich, and expand Jewish life at Harvard. You will engage with our current alumni base and strengthen their giving and commitment to Harvard’s Jewish community.

Your success will be in bridging the gap between the tremendous concern and dedication of our alumni, and the very real needs of Jewish students and Jewish life in the present and near-term. You will take up a leadership position not only in the Harvard Jewish and the broader Cambridge's Jewish community, but in American Judaism writ large by asking a set of questions that no one else is asking about how to make use of a leading university’s resources to expand and enrich Jewish life, and coming up with new possibilities that will be widely influential, studied, and copied.

As we prepare to launch our major capital campaign which will include our new and desperately needed expanded campus, the timing could not be more perfect.

Responsibilities include:
The Director of Institutional Advancement will work directly with Harvard Chabad’s Founder and President, Rabbi Hirschy Zarchi, the executive board, donors, alumni, and students. Projects will focus on a range of responsibilities including:
● Strategic planning to further scale the organization's reach and effectiveness
● Structuring, planning, and launching a major Capital Campaign with the support of the Executive Team, Board of Advisors, and other volunteers
● Building relationships with existing and future donors and foundations
● Creating and implementing a comprehensive alumni and donor engagement program
● Supporting alumni engagement and fundraising events in major US cities
● Creating material to engage existing and future donors, including slide decks, newsletters, and reporting materials
● Managing a new Jewish Leadership Fellowship and conference

Who You Are

Any candidate for this position must be highly motivated by the urgency of the moment for the Jewish people at Harvard and more broadly; be able to pursue work that takes years to come to fruition; and be possessed of significant erudition and emotional intelligence. Intimate familiarity with both the worlds of American higher education and Jewish philanthropy are absolutely necessary.

Executive Assistant

Harvard Chabad is seeking a motivated, articulate, and confident Executive Assistant for our fast-paced and mission-driven organization.

In this role you’ll be the President’s right hand, removing the burden of administrative detail, and helping to promote and advance the vision and priorities of Harvard Chabad. With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you’ll help to foster relationships with key stakeholders: board members, donors, students, and alumni. To be successful you’ll also need to be a self-starter, asking the right questions to execute new opportunities that will help our organization grow. This role requires a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, QuickBooks expertise, and the ability to ensure compliance with organizational policies. Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting
● Maintain and reconcile the general ledger in QuickBooks
● Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
● Support budget development, forecasting, and monitoring of expenditures.
● Ensure compliance with grant and donor reporting requirements.

Audit & Compliance
● Prepare year-end financial statements, schedules, and documentation for annual audit
● Coordinate directly with external auditors and respond to audit requests.
● Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls.

Accounts Payable & Receivable
● Manage the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable processes.
● Process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and credit card transactions.

Qualifications
